Information for Authors
Author Guidelines
The Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biomedicine provides authors with editorial and manuscript preparation instructions in a visible, accessible, and regularly updated section of its website. These guidelines must be followed by all manuscripts submitted for evaluation.
These instructions are intended to guide the preparation, submission, review, and publication of manuscripts, ensuring clarity in editorial requirements, consistency in manuscript presentation, and transparency throughout the editorial process.
Authors must ensure that their manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under simultaneous consideration by another journal. Authors must also comply with applicable ethical guidelines, disclose any potential conflicts of interest, properly acknowledge authorship contributions, obtain the necessary permissions for the use of previously published material, and address any observations arising from the editorial and peer-review process.
The journal publishes original articles, review articles, short communications, hypotheses, tutorials, letters to the editor, and editorials. Each type of contribution must comply with the specific requirements regarding length, structure, formatting, references, tables, figures, and other criteria established in these guidelines.
The author guidelines will be periodically reviewed and updated by the Editorial Committee in order to maintain their relevance, clarity, and alignment with the journal’s current editorial policies.
Types of Articles
Editorial
An editorial is an opinion or reflective article addressing current topics related to pharmaceutical sciences and biomedicine, or articles published in the journal. This type of contribution is prepared by invitation from the Editorial Committee.
Original Articles
Original articles are given priority over other types of submissions. These manuscripts report the results of original research. Each manuscript must include abstracts and keywords in both Spanish and English. The maximum length is 8,000 words, excluding references. The combined number of tables and figures must not exceed five.
Short Communications
Short communications present preliminary findings that, due to their importance, warrant further research or discussion within the scientific community. The maximum length is 3,000 words, excluding references. These manuscripts may include up to two tables or figures and an abstract of no more than 100 words. Their structure must follow the same sequence as that of original articles.
Review Articles
Review articles are manuscripts that synthesize, analyze, and discuss the existing scientific literature on a specific topic, providing a critical and updated perspective on advances, trends, and challenges in the field. They do not present original experimental results; rather, they organize and compare previous studies to identify patterns, knowledge gaps, and future research directions. The length must range from 4,000 to 10,000 words, excluding references, and may include up to five tables and/or figures.
Hypotheses
Hypothesis articles propose a new idea, model, or theory to explain a scientific phenomenon based on existing evidence. They do not present original experimental data but integrate and analyze previous information to formulate an innovative proposal that may be tested in future studies.
Tutorials
Tutorials are manuscripts designed to clearly and didactically explain a concept, methodology, or technique within a scientific field. Their objective is to guide researchers, students, or professionals in understanding and applying a given topic by providing detailed explanations, practical examples, and, when appropriate, comparisons with other approaches. Their structure generally includes an introduction to the topic, step-by-step development, examples or case studies, and a conclusion with recommendations or practical applications.
Letters to the Editor
Letters to the editor aim to stimulate discussion and feedback regarding articles previously published in the journal. The scientific community is invited to submit constructive critiques with a maximum length of 1,000 words and up to 10 references. In addition to the letter, the author’s reply will be published in the same issue of the journal.
Manuscript Preparation Instructions
All manuscripts must be submitted digitally through the journal’s website. The recommended format is Microsoft Word, using Times New Roman, font size 12, and single line spacing. For submission, the corresponding author must first register on the journal platform. In case of difficulties with the registration process, please contact: bespinosar@uanl.edu.mx.
